Master Hirota expands the art of Urushi by applying her craftsmanship to Urushi Watches inspired by Japanese Tea Bowls and pottery. The “Chawan” series — named after traditional tea bowls — features subtle patterns and gentle gradations that reflect the humble elegance of tea ceremony aesthetics.

Master Yoko Hirota
Master Hirota achieves a unique natural multicolored gradient effect through her original Ishime Tsuishitsu Nuri Kinma technique (石目堆漆塗金磨), a highly specialized Urushi method that combines stone-like texturing, deep layered lacquer application, and finely carved decorative finishing. This approach embodies both structural mastery and refined artistic expression, resulting in lacquerwork distinguished by depth, durability, and quiet elegance.
