Delivery Duties Paid (DDP) via FedEx: Pay for Your Taxes in Advance and Worry Less
As of July 23rd, 2026, we are excited to announce that we have added FEDEX as one of our trusted couriers. Additionally, through FEDEX, we will have DDP (Delivery Duties Paid) enabled, which allows customers to pre-pay all of the customs duties and even brokerage fees upon checkout. This will remove the need to pay for these fees at a later date through a third-party system. At the moment, we are only making this available for the United States, but we will gradually add more countries.
For now, you may be wondering - How does DDP work, and how is it calculated?
We ship all of our packages straight from our head office in Japan to the United States. At the moment, there is currently a 15% tariff (tax rate) on all commercial packages from Japan with an additional base percentage of 2.5% in brokerage fees*.
Brokerage fees, in case you are not aware, are decided by the courier, and it covers their costs of brokering the package's assessment by the U.S. Customs, as well as other miscellaneous duties.
This brings the total to 17.5% on average, but there may be exceptions due to unknown factors. As previously mentioned, the base percentage for brokerage fees is 2.5%, but the courier can charge a higher percentage at their own discretion.In order to make the DDP option via FEDEX functional, the DDP at checkout will be 17% of the order total rounded to the nearest hundredth dollar.
- Further Explanation of Brokerage Fees: The base percentage of 2.5% brokerage fees is calculated from the 15% taxes of your package. However, in the event that 2.5% of your package's taxes do not equal (or exceed) 17.50 USD, the courier will charge a flat rate of 17.50 USD. This means that even if your tax is only 16 USD, your brokerage fee will be an additional 17.50 USD (at minimum). For example, if your taxes amount to 300 USD, 2.5% of that is 7.50 USD. This means that the courier may charge the flat rate of 17.50 USD (or more). Our current DDP option provides blanket coverage of these potential brokerage fees to remove that inconvenience for the customer.
The following table shows the total DDP charges for each order total range up to 3,000 USD. Please note that the DDP takes into account the shipping fee, the taxes, the brokerage fees, and our respective contractual arrangement with FEDEX. This is why we will continue to provide UPS and DHL as alternative options, in case you would prefer to pay the taxes and brokerage fees as your package arrives in the destination country instead of a lump sum charged at checkout.
